Beth Moon

The american artist Beth Moon (Neenah, Wisconsin Usa 1956) in the suite 'Thy Kingdom Come' captures the strange balance between the innocence of childhood and the dark shadows of nature, revealing a magical and instinctual attention to the way in which time, memory and nature combine to make man understand his own be in the universe.
Beth Moon studied Fine Arts at the University of Wisconsin. The lessons in painting, life drawing, sculpture and design will create the basis for the photographic work, which will come later. Having moved to England, a country that boasts the greatest concentration of centuries-old trees, she decided to dedicate a series of portraits to them. Dissatisfied with the tones resulting from inkjet printing, Beth Moon began to print her own photographs herself, experimenting with alternative processes and finally arriving at the ancient platinum/palladium technique. As she herself writes, 'By using the most stable and long-lasting printing process, I work towards the survival, not only of man and nature, but of photography itself. For each print I mix platinum and palladium, creating a dye that I spread by hand on coarse-textured cotton paper, which I then expose to light. There are many stages before arriving at the finished image and these are as important to me as the photographic shot. Beth Moon's work is the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in museums and art galleries in Europe and the United States.

Mimmo Paladino

The suite 'Flores seraphici 1993' is a significant moment in the graphic artwork by Mimmo Paladino (Paduli, Benevento Italy 1948) who from the eighties to today has created works of graphic art of extraordinary quality and poetic value. 'Flores seraphici' was realized in 1993, it’s a suite of fifteen etching and aquatint prints limited to 25 copies, each with artist's hand-painted watercolors. The suite features also an etching facepiece and a poem by Giuseppe Conte, has been curated by Waddington editions, London. An old opera "Flores Seraphici" was published in Koeln (D) in 1640 and in 1642, in it were collected engravings made by Flemish masters Johann Heinrich and Johann Eckhard Loffler inspired by the legendary biographies of Capuchin friars of the time with extraordinary powers.
Mimmo Paladino from the late seventies dedicates to painting and sculpture a complex research that explores techniques and materials. The protagonist of the Italian Transavanguardia, his works appear in numerous international museums. His dedication to graphic design has always characterized his work with great success, personal commitment to creation, inventiveness and extraordinary creativity. The high artistic value of Paladino's graphic production, dedicated to complete studies and regrets in Italy and abroad, make it highly sought-after and appreciated by critics and international collectors.
Mimmo Paladino studied at Liceo artistico di Benevento from 1964-68. In 1977 Paladino was given his first one-man show. He traveled to Brazil a number of times from 1982-1985. In 1985, Paladino had a retrospective exhibition at the Lenbachhause, Munich. He also installed a permanent installation in his hometown at the Il Chiostro di San Domenico in Benvento. He continues to work both in Benvento and Milan. In the late 1970s he was, along with Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi and Nicola de Maria, original members of the "transavanguardia", a movement that was largely an Expressionist revival. He was soon having one-man shows in galleries and museums in Europe and New York City. Despite all the early attention, Paladino stayed in Italy, bought a bigger car and taught at the same art school that he had attended as a child. In 1984, amid the olive groves and tobacco fields of his native Paduli, Paladino built a sprawling house and painted it a pale yellow. With his wife, Imma and their daughter Ginestre, he divides his time between this house and an apartment in Milan. He claims his life is not physical, he does not play sports. Once he has finished a painting, it is over for him. There are many dimensions to Paladino, whose passions include poetry and music. He favors contemporary composers and is a great admirer of Glenn Gould. He also had designed furniture, but his most widely recognized claim to design fame is his "Swatch" watch. In 2001, the general catalogue of his graphic work was published (Opera Grafica 1974-2001), curated by Enzo di Martino, for Art of this Century, New York – Paris. The Centro d'Arte Contemporanea Luigi Pecci, Prato, granted him the most comprehensive retrospective exhibition ever organised by an Italian museum, curated by Bruno Corà (2002). In 2003, together with Sandro Chia, Francesco Clemente, Enzo Cucchi, and Nicola de Maria, he put on "Transavanguardia 1979-1985" at the Castello di Rivoli Museo di Arte Contemporanea, curated by Ida Gianelli. He also put on personal exhibitions at the Reggia di Caserta, and in Galleria Scognamiglio in Naples and Galleria Valentina Bonomo, Rome (2004). He presented a travelling exhibition on Pinocchio at modern art museums across eight Japanese cities, in Venice's seventeenth-century Scola dei Battioro and then at the Museo Civico di Udine, the Museo di Palazzo Pio a Carpi and in Rotterdam (2004–2006). In 2004, he created the doors for the Padre Pio church in San Giovanni Rotondo, designed by Renzo Piano. In 2005 he exhibited at the Museum der Moderne Rupertinum in Salzburg, and the Loggetta Lombardesca in Ravenna put on "Paladino in Scena", a major exhibition of his theatre work, curated by Claudio Spadoni. In June that year, he put on an exhibition of major sculptures at the Galleria Internazionale d'Arte Moderna Ca’ Pesaro in Venice, curated by Enzo di Martino, for the Biennale. At the end of 2005, he put on a major exhibition dedicated to Cervantes’ Don Quixote, featuring paintings, sculptures, drawings and a film, at the Museo Capodimonte in Naples. As requested by Marco Müller, the film was presented at the 2006 Venice Film Festival, with great success. That year, he also created the doors for the San Giovanni Battista church in Lecce (designed by Franco Purini), concluded the intervention in piazza dei Conti Guidi, in Vinci, and exhibited at the Cardi and Christian Stein Gallery in Milan, and the Waddington Gallery in London. In 2007, he produced two theatre set designs for OEdipus Rex and Cavalleria rusticana, for the Teatro Regio in Turin, and put on a personal exhibition at the Galleria Civica in Modena. In 2008 he presented a major installation at the Museo dell’Ara Pacis in Rome, set to music by Brian Eno. That year, the University of Lugano granted him a honoris causa degree in Architecture. In June 2008, "Porta di Lampedusa - Porta d'Europa", an important monument in memory of migrants deceased at sea, was inaugurated. In 2009, a group of his sculptures was shown "en plein air" in Orta San Giulio, Lake of Orta, in a show curated by Flavio Arensi; among the various works it was a horse floating to the shore in front of Villa Bossi, the Town Hall. On 10 April the same year he installed a big blue horse over four metres high (13 feet) at the Amphitheatre of Vittoriale degli Italiani di Gardone Riviera (BS), house-museum of the novelist Gabriele D'Annunzio. He is interested in the relationship between visual art and sound and has worked with the sound artist Brian Eno on the installation I Dormienti for the Roundhouse, London in 1999 and on a piece for the Ara Pacis Museum in Rome in 2008. Paladino currently lives and works in Rome and Paduli. Honorary member of the Royal Academy of Arts, London Retrospective exhibition in the Lenbachhaus. Massimo Pulini

Massimo Pulini (Cesena, Italy 1958) currently lives and works between Montiano and Rimini (I). He is Professor of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. Since 1976 he has exhibited his paintings in important private and public galleries, both Italian and international. He has exhibited several times in Paris at the Galleries Lavigne Bastille and Vandôme. At the beginning of the 1980s he participated in fundamental exhibitions curated by critics Maurizio Calvesi, Italo Tomassoni, Marisa Vescovo, Rossana Bossaglia, Paolo Portoghesi and Italo Mussa, who were at the origin of artistic groupings, variously defined: Anachronists, Ipermanierists, Painting Cultured or New Italian Manner. In the mid-eighties, after having held a personal room at the XI Roman Quadrennial, entitled Art as History of Art, he won the competition that led him to realize a great work that will then be placed in Dallas (USA) in a complex architectural designed by Philip Johnson, acknowledged father of postmodern architecture. These experiences have led Massimo Pulini to tackle a long journey of individual research, always in dialogue with the History of Painting and memory, which led him to hold large personal exhibitions in Italian, French and English Museums. In particular, we recall the exhibition that opened for the first time to contemporary art the National Museum of Villa Adriana in Tivoli (1997). In the same year, the monographic exhibition was staged at the Saline Royale in Besançon, while in 1999 his largest anthological exhibition was held at the National Gallery of Parma, with an installation that involved the Farnese Theater and all the halls of the Scuderie della Pilotta. In 2000 he was invited to set up his own ‘picture gallery’ of works at the important retrospective exhibition on the “Italian Novecento”, held at the Papal Stables of the Quirinale with the care of Maurizio Calvesi and Paul Ginsborg. In 2002, commissioned by the Vatican Museums, he carried out the decoration of the vault of one of the rooms of the papal apartments, painting two Angels holding arms in the vestibule of Pope John Paul II’s personal library. He also executes the velarium of the Cesena historical theater Alessandro Bonci with a gigantic work on canvas. In 2005 Romberg Arte Contemporanea of Rome dedicated the anthology entitled Parallel Galleries. In 2006 the Italian Cultural Institute in London, on the recommendation of Sir Denis Mahon, the great scholar of Italian Baroque, prepared a vast staff for him with the publication of two volumes. Also in 2006 he was included in the cataloging project: 10 artists for the cultural heritage of Emilia-Romagna, curated by Carmela Baldino and Claudia Collina. In 2007 he was invited to perform six works, selected by the commission led by Cardinal Betori and chaired by Pope Benedict XVI, who composed the illustrative kit of the official volumes of the Liturgical Lectionary, still in force. In 2009 he was invited by Cardinal Gianfranco Ravasi to the meeting between Pope Benedict XVI and the artists, held in the Sistine Chapel. For over thirty years, in parallel with his activity as an artist, Massimo Pulini has been conducting research in the field of Art History, publishing various essays in scientific journals. Over the years he has published several books with the Medusa publishing house in Milan, has contributed to theater plays and written novels. From June 2011 until January 2019 he assumed a civil responsibility commitment at the Rimini Municipal Administration and promoted the Design Biennial, curating three editions of what has already emerged as the largest international exhibition dedicated to Art of drawing, ancient and contemporary

Vanni Spazzoli

Vanni Spazzoli (Forlì, Italy 1940) lives and works in Sant'Agata sul Santerno, near Ravenna. He began his artistic activity at the end of the '60s. To the solid figurative formation, the artist in soon linked a purely pictorial tension based on the value of the material and on the gestural pregnancy of the image. In the early '70s, the artist has been present in important artistic exhibitions at the regional level, but soon his work aroused interest and appreciation in the national sphere and later in many European realities. In the ‘70s and ‘80s he has been invited to several editions of Biennale d'arte di Romagna (1976-1982) and to hold solo shows at Galleria di S. Mercuriale Forlì (1980), Palazzo del Podestà Faenza (1980) and Galleria Nuovo Ruolo Forlì (1984). During the ‘90s he was present in exhibitions and art events in Italy, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Spain, France. Of 1995 is the show 'Ver Sacrum' at Oratorio di San Sebastiano Forlì curated by Valerio Dehò, with a critical testimony of Franco Patruno. In that period, the figurative universe of the artist assumed well-defined outlines within intimate and unconscious territories animated by characters and beings allegorically transfigured with respect to the vision of reality. From the end of ‘90s in advance, he was invited to important art events: the exhibition in Pescherie della Rocca Lugo (Ravenna) in 1998, the event 'Venezia Arte' in 1999, the great exhibition at Museo del Senio Alfonsine (Ravenna) in 2003, the solo show at Lugo Palace of Commerce and the show ‘Paure’ at Museo S.Rocco Fusignano (Ra), 'Novecento in Romagna' Cesena (2001) curated by Claudio Spadoni, 'Trentaquaranta' curated by Orlando Piraccini at Municipal Gallery Faenza (2003) and 'Connecting Paths' in Palazzo Albertini Forlì. In 2009 the artist was invited by Claudio Spadoni to the prestigious Prize ‘Marina di Ravenna’ at MAR City Art Museum. He was alsominvited at the 2008 and 2010 editions of the Roncaglia Biennial, S.Felice sul Panaro. In 2011 he held the show 'Vanni Spazzoli. Store of memories' at L’Ariete artecontemporanea in Bologna, accompanied by a monographic catalog with texts by Eleonora Frattarolo and Claudio Spadoni. In 2014 another solo show at L’Ariete artecontemporanea, 'Vanni Spazzoli. Inner patterns', with Marco Dalpane's text and the presentation of the covers of the record label 'A simple lunch' inspired from his works. In 2013 he was given a great retrospective entitled 'Vanni Spazzoli New and Old Tales' curated by Claudio Spadoni in the Antichi Magazzini del Sale in Cervia (monograph catalogue). In 2014/2016 he was invited to the shows 'Cantiere artistico' San Mauro Pascoli|ex fabbrica MirMar, ‘RIquadri' Alba Progetti Studio, Palazzo Machirelli Dal Pozzo Imola, 'Vanni Spazzoli' Galleria Civica Faro Arte with the patronage of Regione Emilia Romagna and Provincia Ravenna. In 2018 he will hold a new solo show in Gallery L’Ariete artecontemporanea and will take part in the exhibition ‘Il disegno della polvere’ in the context of Biennale del Disegno Rimini, both curated by Eleonora Frattarolo. Vanni Spazzoli since 2008 is represented by Gallery L'Ariete artecontemporanea of Bologna, with the Gallery he has participated in Arte Fiera (Bologna), Art Verona (Verona), MiArt (Milano), Art Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe, D). His works are in Italian and international collections.
