UNESCO City of Media Arts

UCoMA is cooperating closely with the ZKM and the HfG at this year's art fair and will be exhibiting together with the two institutions in a joint area, the "Marketplace", in Hall 3, which is dedicated to the theme of "Artication" (Art + Education).

The three institutions will be presenting impressive media artworks that show a wide range of the art spectrum in Karlsruhe and the surrounding area. A total of seven artistic works will be presented on the "Marketplace" under the title "Hybrid Echoes". The title of the works establishes a direct link to the attitude to life of the current generation of students, which, in the past as now, is formed from diverse influences. The "hybrid" symbolizes the various connections of the self that contemporary society observes and artistically reflects. The students' presentation is enriched by historical video works that can be seen as echoes of a previous generation of female artists who also deal with the theme of self-identity in a modern, media-saturated world.

The works of the following artists will be shown: Luise Peschko (HfG), Miki Feller (HfG), Yuliana Mosheeva (HfG), Nina Sobell (ZKM), Pipilotti Rist (ZKM), Dara Birnbaum (ZKM).

In addition, UCoMA is showing its own media artwork from the 2023 project funding program: Greetings from the Black Forest by artist collective “Francis Karat”, a work consisting of postcards set in motion with image-to-video AI tools and featuring additional sound design.
