Frank Björklund

Mollbrinks Gallery is delighted to present a curated selection of works by the acclaimed Swedish artist Frank Björklund — a visionary surrealist whose unmistakable blend of technical mastery and sharp, intelligent humor has captivated audiences for decades.

Born in 1960 in Härnösand, Björklund has developed a distinctive artistic language in which the surreal meets the familiar. His paintings are meticulously crafted, often bordering on photorealism, yet they unfold in worlds where logic bends, time slips, and the unexpected becomes inevitable.

At the heart of Björklund’s artistry lies humor — not as decoration, but as a driving force. His clever wordplay, visual irony, and playful twists invite viewers to look twice, think deeper, and smile in recognition. Whether through subtle wit or bold absurdity, Björklund uses humor as a lens to explore human behavior, societal norms, and the curious world we inhabit.

His compositions seamlessly merge everyday objects with symbolic, historical, and contemporary elements, creating scenes that are as thought-provoking as they are visually striking. Beneath the charm and cleverness lies a meaningful narrative — a reflection on existence, culture, and the environmental challenges we face.

We are proud to showcase these works, which highlight Björklund’s rare ability to pair masterful technique with a uniquely humorous perspective — resulting in art that both delights and lingers in the mind long after the first glance.

About us

Gallery profile

MOLLBRINKS WAS ESTABLISHED in 1957 by Lars Mollbrink and has continuously operated as a family owned business. Today, the gallery is run by Lars Mollbrink’s son and grandson, Jan Mollbrink and Johan Hauffman. Mollbrinks has two galleries in Sweden, with the flagship in the academic town of Uppsala and the other location in the southern town of Kungshamn on the Swedish west coast.

THE GALLERY EXHIBITS a wide range of modern masters of the 20th century as well as 19th century art but specializes in three artists of the two eras: Anders Zorn, Salvador Dalí, and Marc Chagall.

IN MORE RECENT YEARS, Mollbrinks has increased its focus on international contemporary artists with an emphasis on international art fairs and public sculpture exhibitions.

THE BACKGROUND IMAGE depicts Her Majesty Queen Silvia at the inauguration of N.Y.C. LEGEND, a sculptural work by Alexander Klingspor unveiled in New York. The project, made possible through the support of Mollbrinks Gallery, symbolizes the meeting between Swedish artistic vision and international cultural dialogue.

ONE of our highlights for art Karlsruhe 2026 is several paintings by the Swedish contemporary artist Frank Björklund. Each painting in this collection is a striking exploration of surrealism, infused with a touch of humor—often dark humor—that invites viewers to reflect on deeper themes. Beyond their captivating visuals, these artworks carry a powerful ecological message, urging us to consider our relationship with the environment.

Dive into this unique artistic experience where imagination meets responsibility and let the thought-provoking imagery inspire a dialogue about the world we inhabit.

REUTERSVÄRD - Inventor of the ‘Impossible Figure’! Mollbrinks Gallery has been commissioned by Oscar Reutersvärd's family to exhibit Reutersvärd's artistic creations. A selection of his impossible figures will be on display at our stand.
