An art piece serves as a refection of the situations of each corresponding era.
Even an old proverb states, “By analyzing the ceramics, we can predict what
has been going on during that certain era.”
Therefore, I believe that by leaving the famous masterpieces behind and by
choosing to paint ones that are currently being used, Ja Hyun Choi intended to
express the culture of the contemporary.
A ceramic bowl that can contain the living, contemporary heart…
I suppose that Ja Hyun Choi’s paintings embody such things.

Venice Biennale in 2013 and the KEPCO Plaza Art
Museum, as well as in numerous solo and group
exhibitions both locally and abroad. He is the
recipient of the Haengju Art Award in 2011 and
2005, and the Golden Award for Paper Art from the
World Gallery of Drawing in 2013. His work forms
part of the private collections of Hauser & Wirth
Gallery, the Seoul Paper Museum and the Tween
Tower Foundation, USA

CHOI KYUNG AE

The small, secret whisper that “a paper can be anything” is creating a new world of art that can transform a cultural tradition to another.
The reason life is so beautiful to me, is because I can leave it any time.
The ‘raindrop prelude’ is a series that draws the color of my heart, which longs for an unexplored world.
It could be the dark green of mid-summer, the mysterious blue and yellow, that reminds me of a few beautiful days.
But a plethora of colors are hidden in the countless gaps of time that exist in between.
The endless conglomeration and scattering reminisce a piano piece.
Work continues with the topic of novel aesthetics, and aesthetic expression
This is the direction I want to pursue, while continuously exploring and working on physical characteristics and expressive methods through the hanji paper, to share my story with the world.
